Position Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for technical leadership and responsibility for the technical realization of a key new, or substantially evolved existing feature or feature set. This position reports into the healthcare organization and supports the Operating Room Integration (ORI) Business. This role is a technical stakeholder working cross functionally within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality, and reliability objectives.
Key responsibilities include analyzing customer requirements, developing system architecture, designing system layouts, developing, and delivering product and product support solutions in collaboration with Service, Information Technology (IT), Product Management, Clinical Specialists, Quality, and Regulatory.
To be successful in this role, the individual should be technically oriented, have a strong focus on quality/details and have demonstrated project management skills.

Note: This position requires onsite joining (Hybrid) for 3 days in the office at Mentor Ohio, Headquarters of STERIS. Also, for the right candidate, we are open for visa sponsorship.

Job Duties:

As a Sr. Systems Engineer you'll
* Contribute to the New Product Development (NPD) on all phases from system definition, conceptualization, system-level design, integration, and testing.
* Plan, oversee and execute the Systems Engineering activities in the project, including initiation, coordination, synchronization, review, and integration of the technical work performed within various engineering disciplines, constrained within project schedule, cost, performance, quality, and reliability objectives.
* Contribute in cross-discipline feasibility and tradeoff studies.
* Utilize understanding of medical device design controls and regulatory standards to ensure the system and subsystem requirements are complete and robust and meet all relevant standards.
* Drive refinement and translation of user and stakeholder requirements including clinical, marketing, service, implementation, and manufacturing.
* Develop technical approach including system and subsystem architecture and product inter-compatibility through system definition, conceptualization; creating block diagrams, use cases, feature functional mapping and modeling.
* Define testing requirements and strategy and drive formal verification and validation, including test concepts, design of experiments, test protocols, and reports.
* Responsible for a combination of system definition, technical deep dive/design, and technical project management.
* Apply sound, systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving system issues.
* Document technical approach including system and hospital integration network layout and configuration to meet specifications defined by Product Management, ORI Sales Specialists and Account Managers.
* Remain current on product offerings and product changes which impact the design and configuration of integration systems. These changes may require rework to existing system designs.
* Evaluate and implement software tools to improve the system design process.
* Plans and executes system-level design reviews.
* Leads the preparation of documentation, including Risk Management, System Design Documentation, Configuration Management, DHF etc.
* Leads system integration, including standing up necessary infrastructure, root cause analysis and problem solving, corrective action, and follow up activities.
* Drives Continuous Improvement of Process through DevOps methodologies.

Education, Job Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
* Broad technical working knowledge of software and networking
* Experience performing system requirement analysis and definition. Experience working with stakeholders to refine product requirements to be realized in is required.
* Demonstrated ability in leading evolution of a complex feature, where analysis requires both evaluation of multiple candidate solutions and significant evaluation of intangibles.
* Ability to propose methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to realize the feature.
* Good communication, influencing, conflict resolution, and technical documentation skills.
* Systems thinking acuity.
* Linux background highly desired.
* Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
* Experience with Ethernet, network architectures, network protocols, HTTP/HTTPS, SIP/H.323, and SSH desired.
* Computer Networks, Visio, MATLAB or other technical software experience.
* Minimum five progressive years of intensive experience.
* Three years involvement in a multi-discipline project development environment.
* Background in Medical, Aerospace, or other regulated field.
* 20% Foreign or Domestic Travel required (California).
