Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Health Information and Coding and the Director of HIM. The Supervisor supports daily functions in accordance with regulatory compliance and practice management standards for the Critical Access Hospitals (CAH). Orient and educates physicians and allied healthcare professionals in the documentation and regulatory requirements necessary for accurate medical records and complaint practice management billing for Monument Health Critical Access Hospitals.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the daily coding and HIM operations at Monument Health CAH locations. Assists with development and implementation of objectives and goals, processes and areas of standardization to increase efficiency that directly contributes to the bottom line. Actively works to reduce operating expenses by improving processes, products, services, customer service, and reduction in cycle time.
  • Fosters trust among internal and external customers and HIM team as evidenced by high team morale and excellent communication. Helps with recruitment and interviews while striving for a strong dedicated team that is committed to high standards and quality of care. Ensures that all corporate compliance and HIPPA initiatives are met and/or communicated to staff. Promotes ongoing enhancement of knowledges and skills while improving the quality for information and care.
  • Works in collaboration with HIM managers and supervisors to facilitate team approach between the clinic coding staff and the hospital coding departments. Assists colleagues in the revenue cycle with billing or compliance questions (clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, patient access, billing, HIM, clinical departments).
  • Works in collaboration with the Manager CAH HIM and Coding for objectives and goals. Conducts analysis of the overall resource needs and analyzes volumes to meet those productivity needs.
  • Accurately oversees and assigns ICD10 CM diagnoses and ICD 9 CPT procedures codes to all inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with established time frames. Accurately abstracts patient record to maintain information integrity.
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of core business structures, systems, practices, trends and technologies in the healthcare field. Conducts analysis of the overall resource needs and creates measures to meet those needs.
  • All other duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

Preferred:

Education- Associates degree in the related field or one of the certifications below

Certifications- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or Certified Professional coder (CPC)- American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC); or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)- American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)- American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Experience- 1+ years of coding and HIM experience working in a Critical Access Hospital

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
